What does "metal seated" mean, and when is it preferred over soft seated?
Metal seated means both the ball and seat ring are made from hardened metal rather than polymer (PTFE/RPTFE). Metal seated valves meet API 6D Class IV leakage rate (≤100 ml/min per inch of bore) and withstand service temperatures from -29°C to +425°C on standard carbon steel bodies, with alloy steel options extending to +600°C, abrasive media, erosive fluids, and high-velocity steam that would quickly damage soft seats. They are the preferred choice for high-temperature process lines, steam service, catalyst-laden flows, and fire-safe critical applications.
What is GB/T 12237, and what do PN16 / PN40 pressure ratings mean?
GB/T 12237 is China's national standard for steel ball valves, covering design, materials, testing, and marking requirements.
