API 600 is the American Petroleum Institute standard for bolted-bonnet steel gate valves used in petroleum, natural gas, and petrochemical pipelines. Gate valves are designed for full-bore isolation — they provide unrestricted flow when fully open and tight shut-off when closed, with minimal pressure drop across the valve. They are not suitable for throttling.
