API 6D / API 608 Metal-Seated Ball Valves - Low Platform
STELLITE METAL-TO-METAL · -29°C TO +425°C · SEVERE SERVICE
Severe-service ball valve with Stellite hard alloy metal-to
metal seating for high-temperature steam, abrasive slurries,
erosive particulate, and H₂S sour gas service. Three body
material options (WCB, CF8, CF8M) cover the full industrial
duty spectrum. API 598 Class IV reliable shutoff from -29°C to
+425°C — outperforms PTFE soft seat in conditions that cause rapid soft-seat degradation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does "metal seated" mean, and when is it preferred over soft seated?
Metal seated means both the ball and seat ring are made from hardened metal rather than polymer (PTFE/RPTFE). Metal seated valves meet API 6D Class IV leakage rate (≤100 ml/min per inch of bore) and withstand service temperatures from -29°C to +425°C on standard carbon steel bodies, with alloy steel options extending to +600°C, abrasive media, erosive fluids, and high-velocity steam that would quickly damage soft seats. They are the preferred choice for high-temperature process lines, steam service, catalyst-laden flows, and fire-safe critical applications where soft seats cannot survive.
What is Stellite, and why is it used on this valve?
Stellite is a cobalt-chromium alloy renowned for exceptional hardness, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance at elevated temperatures. Applied as a hard-facing overlay on the ball and seat surfaces, Stellite dramatically extends valve service life in abrasive, erosive, or high-temperature service. It resists galling — the tendency of metal-to-metal surfaces to seize under pressure — and maintains sealing integrity through repeated thermal cycling. Bautu applies Stellite overlay by precision welding to meet API 6D and API 608 requirements.
What is the lead time, and can you accommodate custom specifications?
Standard sizes (NPS ½" to 8", Class 150 / 300) with Stellite overlay are available in 4–6 weeks. Custom alloys, tungsten carbide overlay, actuated packages, or witness inspection orders typically require 8–12 weeks. OEM private labeling and ITP documentation are available for EPC projects.
