What is a PTFE lined ball valve, and what makes it different from a standard ball valve?
A PTFE lined ball valve has its entire wetted flow path — including the body interior, ball, and seats — covered with a continuous layer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). This lining creates a chemically inert barrier between the pipeline media and the metal valve body, providing excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, solvents, and aggressive chemicals that would corrode or degrade a standard carbon steel or stainless steel valve. PTFE lined valves are the standard choice in chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, electroplating, and water treatment where media purity and corrosion protection are critical.
Which corrosive media is this valve suitable for, and what are its limitations?
Bautu's PTFE lined ball valves handle a wide range of aggressive media including hydrochloric acid (HCl), sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄), nitric acid, sodium hydroxide (NaOH), chlorine solutions, and most organic solvents. The PTFE lining is chemically resistant to virtually all industrial chemicals at temperatures up to 180°C. However, PTFE lined valves are not recommended for molten alkali metals, elemental fluorine, or media containing abrasive solid particles that would mechanically damage the lining surface. For abrasive or ultra-high-temperature service, metal seated or ceramic lined alternatives should be specified. Standard PTFE lined ball valves (PN16/PN25) are delivered in 3–5 weeks from order confirmation.
