Frequently Asked Questions
What does WCB mean, and why is it the most common ball valve body material?
WCB (ASTM A216 Grade WCB) is cast carbon steel — the industry-standard body material for industrial ball valves in oil, gas, and general process service. It offers an excellent balance of mechanical strength, pressure resistance, weldability, and cost-effectiveness, rated for service temperatures from -29°C to +425°C. WCB is specified by default in most oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation projects where the media is non-corrosive or only mildly corrosive. For corrosive or cryogenic applications, stainless steel (CF8M) or low-temperature carbon steel (LCB) bodies are specified instead.
What does API 6D mean, and what is the difference between Class 150 and Class 300?
API 6D is the American Petroleum Institute standard for pipeline and piping valves, covering design, materials, dimensions, testing, and marking requirements for valves used in oil and gas transmission systems. It is the most widely recognized valve standard for international energy projects. Class 150 valves have a maximum working pressure of approximately 19.6 bar (285 psi) at ambient temperature — suitable for low-to-medium pressure pipelines. Class 300 valves are rated to approximately 51 bar (740 psi), designed for higher-pressure gathering lines, compressor stations, and process systems. Always confirm the pressure-temperature rating from the standard tables for your specific operating temperature.
What is the standard lead time, and what custom configurations does Bautu offer?
Standard WCB API 6D ball valves in Class 150 and Class 300 are delivered in 4–6 weeks from order confirmation. Bautu supports full customization including fire-safe design (API 607 / API 6FA), anti-static device, double-block-and-bleed (DBB) configuration, Stellite-hardfaced seats for erosive service, and pneumatic or electric actuator packages. Third-party inspection and certification (SGS, BV, TÜV, Lloyds) is available. Submit your valve datasheet or project specification for a tailored quotation within 24 hours.
